Although vinyl floors are a low maintenance surface, it’s important to know the right way to clean them. Here at Affordable Flooring Solutions, we thought we’d share our best tips for cleaning your vinyl floor. First step – Sweeping
Sweeping away all the surface level, loose dirt is essential to cleaning your floor properly. By removing the larger bits of dirt, your hoover is able to work more effectively later. Go in with a dustpan and brush to get any mud, fluff or mess out of the way. Running a broom over the floor once a day will ensure that no dirt gets ground into the surface.
Second step – Hoovering
Then go in with a hoover. Make sure it is on the right setting so it doesn’t damage the floor. Check that your hoover filter bag isn’t too full as this can cause your hoover to perform poorly. If the area you’re cleaning has a lot of foot traffic, take the extra time to make sure all the dirt is hoovered.
Third step – Mopping
Gently going over with a mop is great to get a nice shine and a deeper clean. If you’re using a floor cleaner, make sure it is made to use on vinyl floors or it can end up damaging it. Although vinyl floors are water resistant, it’s important not to let water sit too long on them. Just a damp mop will work perfectly to avoid making puddles. You can even use two mops, one for cleaning and one for rinsing to give extra shine.
What about a deep clean?
Doing a proper, deep clean of your vinyl floor at least once a year is a really good idea. This will keep it looking brand new and shiny. Use a gentle cleaning solution with a mop and then rinse the floor. Try using one cup of vinegar for every gallon of water to make your own cleaning solution. If there are any stubborn stains, go in with a damp microfiber cloth. Baking soda works well on stains like ketchup, lipstick or ink. You can use a knife to scrape off annoying stains like gum or paint.
Keeping your vinyl floor clean will help it last longer and keep it looking fresh.
