Searching how to work on your own floor preparation in Hildenborough and don’t have the time? Luxury vinyl tiling is a great option for any property. It is durable and stylish – coming in a huge range of designs. It is often chosen because it is almost indistinguishable from traditional wooden or porcelain tiles. LVT doesn’t absorb moisture and so is perfect for bathrooms. The LVT planks are fairly thin, so they won’t disrupt your skirting boards.
So, you’ve settled on luxury vinyl tiling for your property. The next step is to prepare your floor for installation. It can be difficult to know where to start but here at Affordable Flooring Solutions, we want to help make the process easy. Here are a few steps you can take to prepare your floor for expert LVT installation.
Step 1 – Identify what type of subfloor you are installing over
This sounds complicated but is actually pretty easy. In order to properly prepare your floor, you need to identify what type of subfloor you have. The subfloor bottom layer of your flooring. It is the layer that the other floor pieces lay on to. This commonly is wood, concrete or particle board.
If you have a concrete subfloor, you will need to test for its moisture contents. If it comes up too high you may need to bring a dehumidifier in to lower it.
Step 2 – Thoroughly clean the subfloor
The next step is to deeply clean your subfloor. Start by sweeping up any loose debris or dirt. The go over with a hoover. Finally, go over the subfloor with a mop and appropriate cleaning solution. You may want to mop a few times to get a deeper clean. It’s a good idea to have one mop for cleaning and one for rinsing.
Make sure your floor is completely dry before continuing.
Step 3 – Make sure your subfloor is level
Your subfloor must be completely level to put a new flooring down. Test this using a level (either a physical one or one on your phone). Fill in any low spots with patching compound. You can go in after it has dried and sand it down.
Step 4 – Acclimatise your LVT planks
This is essential for successful installation. The LVT planks need to acclimatise to the humidity of the room for 48 hours. This is very easy to do. Just leave them in a box in the room for 48 hours before installation.
